Far from the nearest road, Fortress Lake remains the last hidden jewel of the Canadian Rockies. Fortress Lake Retreat is the only wilderness resort servicing the seldom visited and very remote Hamber Provincial Park, located on the Continental Divide of the BC and Alberta Rocky Mountains. We access our facility by float plane each week during the spring, summer and fall. 

The retreat's facilities are cozy and definitely comfortable.

Our 6 private lakeside guest cabins are inviting and warm, framed and paneled in tongue and groove pine, with a canvas exterior (mandated by BC Parks).  Each cabin has firm a queen and single bed arrangement and  are furnished with unique hand-crafted log beds. Beds have 3" memory foam atop firm mattresses, and come with new linens, pillows, and duvets. The cabins provide an inviting atmosphere where you can enjoy personal time. The cabins are bright, clean, and well kept. All cabins are furnished with wood stoves for a little extra warmth during those cooler spring or autumn nights. Our cabins are literally surrounded by spectacular, towering mountain peaks and glaciers. 

In 2007 we installed a solar power system that provides power for lighting and small electrical appliances in the kitchen, dining, and lounging facilities. We no longer have an ice house, rather, a full pantry with 2 fridges and a freezer powered by our solar system. Lighting is being converted to the power grid, along with power outlets.

Also in 2007, we constructed a new lounge yurt as well as a new kitchen & dining yurt. These structures blend well with the surrounding landscape, Class "A" BC Parks mandate, and our long term environmental vision at our retreat. We strive to provide a quality experience and customer service without removing the charm of the pristine setting.

Our quaint wash cabin is complete with 2 showers (new for summer 2008), with hot water fueled by a wood boiler.  Toilets are complete with clean flush toilets, and provide stunning mountain views.
